(1) Related to or fitted for the production of good offspring. (2) Relating to the science of improving the desirable traits of a race or breed through controlled breeding.
Example:
Eugenic techniques have been part of cattle breeding for many years.
The word eugenic (like the name Eugene) was formed from the prefix eu- in combination with -genes, which in Greek means "born." Breeders of horses, cattle, and other animals hope that by using scientific, eugenic methods they can have better results, producing horses that run faster, for example, or cattle that provide more meat. Through eugenics, Guernsey cows have become one of the world's highest producers of milk. Earlier in this century there was much discussion of human genetics, an idea that was taken up enthusiastically by the Nazis, with terrible consequences.
