Small children seem prone to falling into pools, rivers, and lakes. I will never forget the day I was at Hume Lake speaking to some students. My friend Eric's little boy was sitting in his chair right next to his daddy on the edge of the dock. All of a sudden, the chair tipped over and Eric's son disappeared into the lake.
Stunned, we all watched as Eric rushed over, reached into the water, and pulled his son to safety. He did what any loving father would have done in that circumstance. In fact, Eric would have done whatever it took to save his son!
In a similar way, our loving Heavenly Father has rescued us from a certain death. The Bible says that all of us have sinned (fallen off the chair of perfection) and come short of God's desire for us. Spiritually, all of us were drowning in our sins. We were in over our heads, and God reached down and rescued us. He sent Jesus to "save" us, to pull us to safety -- and to eternal life!

Psalm 25:20 says...
"Keep my soul, and deliver me;
Let me not be ashamed, for I put my trust in You."
